Dr. Ebrahim Fathi

Ebrahim Fathi is an associate professor at West Virginia University. He is an experienced engineer and geoscientist with expertise in petroleum engineering, geosciences, computational fluid dynamics, artificial intelligence and deep learning technologies, algorithms and tools. He has experience in developing, managing, and leading big multidisciplinary projects. His experience includes +6 years in applied data science and machine learning in different engineering problems, scientific programing using Fortran and Python and +10 years in unconventional reservoir development, hydraulic fracturing and computational fluid dynamics.

Fathi has received 2014 The American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers Rossiter W. Raymond Memorial Award. In 2016 Fathi published a book, titled “Hydraulic Fracturing in Unconventional Reservoirs: Theories, Operations, and Economic Analysis”. The book was a huge success and well received by industry and academia such that he published the second edition in 2019 enhanced to include today’s newest technologies, such as machine learning and the monitoring of field performance. He authored 18 peer reviewed publications and 20 conference paper presentations since 2008. He received SPE’s Outstanding Technical Editor Award in 2018 and 2013.
