Speaker: Dr. Masoud Kavoossi

Synopsis:

The session looks in detail at issues of global concern. The focus is going to be on the most recent wave of developments in globalization including emerging markets. Before 1980 most of the developing world was following an inward-oriented development plan.

Globalization has been going on for a long time: ever since our common ancestors began migrating out of Africa thousands of years ago. While interaction among different peoples goes back to the beginning of human history (The Silk Highway), however the deep integration of economies is a more “modern” phenomenon that really accelerated starting in the 19th century.  The more recent globalization is very much connected to industrialization– the transformation of rural and traditional societies into more urban, industrial, and commercial ones The presentation will look in to the phenomenon  and drivers of globalization and its consequences.
