Synopsis:

Drawing on its multi-disciplinary expertise, International Petroleum Enterprises (IPE) has followed the events in the MENA region very closely with the aim of providing a better understanding of the prevailing socio-economic trends and conditions at work in this highly complex and volatile region. The nature of the current political change underway in the region is examined from a psychological, economic and political perspective, as is its combined effect on the future availability and distribution patterns of oil and natural gas from this region. The actual as well as the perceived nature of policies formulated and implemented by the US and other Western governments on the one hand, and by the global oil and natural gas industry on the other, will determine the attitude and behavior of the emerging decision makers in the Arab World. IPE hopes that this report will contribute to the making of more rational decisions in an interdependent world market.
